Holiday Home In Saint-Rémy-de-Provence

The unrivalled view of the Alpilles mountains is what sets this well-designed and attractive house apart. In a quiet location near to two of the main St Remy attractions – the Glanum site and the St Paul Mausole where Van Gogh spent his most prolific year – the house is only 10 minutes’ walk from all the town centre has to offer. The house has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a cloakroom and sleeps nine people. There is a fully-fitted kitchen with an open-plan living room which has a traditional Provencal fireplace. The enclosed garden has a boules court and a swimming pool that can be heated.

Maison Glanum is a single-storey stone-built house, fully tiled and painted cream throughout to give a light and airy feeling. The open-plan living room/kitchen is the heart of the house, with comfy seating and a television and open fireplace. The kitchen is stylish and well equipped. There is a terrace leading off the kitchen with a table seating eight people for long, lazy lunches and dinners. The house has three double bedrooms, (two with king-size beds), a twin bedroom and a single bedroom, all with their own individual charm. These are served by three full bathrooms and also a separate cloakroom.

The kitchen has a dishwasher, fridge freezer, electric oven and gas hob, ice maker and microwave. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the separate utility room.

There are fantastic mountain views from the south-facing, enclosed garden. Sun loungers and a comfortable hammock are provided for relaxing. There is a boules court for more active outdoor entertainment and a BBQ is available.

The garden has a private free-form swimming pool with a very practical secure fold back pool cover. The pool can be heated by a pump between April and October, to allow it to be enjoyed for a longer period.

Free Wifi

Wifi is available throughout the house to browse the internet and stream films and games.

Bed linen and towels, including pool towels, are provided and also a cleaner for the end of your stay.

For indoor entertainment there is a television with satellite channels and DVD player, plus a large selection of books and board games.

Town Centre

St Remy de Provence is a pretty little town with a well-preserved old centre of narrow winding streets and charming shops, restaurants and cafes, plus a couple of museums and private art galleries.

The house is on the edge of town looking up to the Alpilles hills, where lovely walks can be had. Very nearby is Lac du Peiroou which is a very pretty small artificial lake with great views, popular for angling and picnicking.

Just round the corner from Maison Glanum is the new winery of Domaine de Metifiot where there are tours and wine tasting. A few miles away is Chateau Romanin, an estate that uses the biodynamic method, which also has tours and tastings.

Cultural sites

The house is right next to St Remy’s three main tourist attractions: St Paul de Mausole, the sanatorium where Van Gogh spent a year; two well preserved Roman monuments (Les Antiques); and Glanum, the remains of the old roman town that was founded here. The town is also the birthplace of Nostradamus.

St Remy has a great market on Wednesday mornings, which gets extremely busy in Summer. Half an hour’s drive away is L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, well known for its antiques shops and weekend markets.

Local area

A short hop away is Les Baux, - a remarkable mediaval hilltop fortress and village with an amazing history. In the caves there is the Carrieres de Lumieres show – artworks projected on the walls and animated, which is well worth a visit.
